Yuuko Ichihara - Foxy Lady #31

fox ears front

fox ears back

I'm back to the Foxy Lady, after over one month break, and I just realised that I never made a post about the finished ears. After all the paint issues,  I decided not to fuss with them any more. So I declared them finished. Later, if I have leftover paint, I'll give them one more coat.
glueing the ears to the headband

So, I glued them to the headband. The headband is a thin steel headband, covered in black ribbon on top. I glued them with E6000 epoxy glue, but, due to the very small glue point, although they're stable because they're very light, it tends to rip anyway. In fact, I had to glue them twice, and I'm still not happy about it. I'd like to add some structural spikes, to connect the ears to the headband, but because the headband is steel, I felt I reached a dead end. But then, recently, I remembered I own a Dremmel-like tool, I could try to drill it, and add steel nails as a connecting structure. Then, I would add glue and a piece of black fabric to hold everything in place. I'm unsure my drills will work on steel, but I have to try. I'm so used to do everything by hand, that I forget how handy a power drill can be.

petticoat and square frill

Onto the actual post. Yesterday I finally drafted and cut the petticoat pattern. After cutting it, I realised it overlaps a bit, so, after sewing the side seams, I'll adjust that and the hem, which I straight in the back, where it should be curved.

In order not to have visible raw seams, they all will be narrow felled seams. I will cut the frills/flounces in the silky satin, it's just a square, with a circle opening in  the centre, which will attach to the petticoat. Ill cut as many as I can,  and then distribute them troughout the hem. All of the square hems will be handsewn, much like the blouse's. There will be a LOT of hand sewing just for a petticoat...

And then I forgot my sewing pouch/kit, with my scissors, graphite, measuring tape, and golden thread at the new flat...

+ The ears are 99% done, just a small thing to sort out. I wanted to sew the petticoat before the dress, not to have to change the thread twice in my machine. It sounds lazy, but I don't have many bobbin spools, and I wanted to finish all the white sewing, before filling a grey spool.

- Bummer that there's not enough surface to have a stable connection between the ears and headband. And, I'm still procrastinating with the sewing...

THE CUNNING PLAN

Fix the ears problem and cut the white square frills, to start hemming them.
